"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined." - Henry David Thoreau

I have known for a long time that I wanted to study abroad, but Bulgaria was not the location that I had always imagined. Many people ask me why I chose Bulgaria, but the fact is...Bulgaria chose me. (Or I should say that events occurred along the way that resulted in my Bulgarian study abroad…)I knew next to nothing about Bulgaria when I began the process of looking at schools abroad. However, I knew that Bulgaria was full of history and that was very attractive to me. So, I began making my list of possibilities and through a painfully long process, I narrowed that list down to five universities. No,Bulgaria was not my first choice. My first choices announced they would no longer accept exchange students after September. Therefore, Bulgaria became my destination school. After I found out where I was going, I began researching my new college in more depth. I soon discovered that the history classes that my university offered were better than my first choices! (Blessing number one) In addition, I discovered that my university is only an hour from Greece! (Blessing number two) (For those of you that do not know…I have always wanted to live in Greece). Then, I met several helpful people that have either lived in, traveled to, or are visiting Bulgaria. (Blessing number three) The more I found out about Bulgaria, the more I felt like Bulgaria fit me.

  2. Don't let them fool you one bit Jen! They are delighted that you are over there so they can do the laundry themselves! They fight constantly about it!
Got your address and thought about sending you a #1 from McDonalds but the ice might be melted in the coke before it gets there, even with USPS!
What were the ingredients in the "shopska" (or something like that) salad? It really looked good! Make certain to post things that you miss from the good ole' USofA so that we can make certain that you are seen as a rich, pampered, spoiled rotten American girl!
This blog thing is really the bomb! Again, I feel certain that I will be talking to you more than your mother! Oh well, she is who she is! and I love her to pieces!!!
Talk again real soon, Love, Judy

  3. Ok Judy- I read that and I resemble that remark! I think the USPS can have a Mickey D's #1 over there before Spring, which, since we still have snow here in the South, may still have ice.
Since Jeff and I have less laundry now, you can come visit us and I will be glad to make you a shopska salad which has a variety of fresh peppers, goat cheese, tomatoes, green onions and if desired, olives. My wonderful son and quite talented daughter-in-law made one for Jen's farewell and it was delicious!
But back to you Jen. Great pictures! I know you are a bit under the weather but please give a few details about the newest group when you are up to speed. Love you. And you too, Judy.

  4. Hey! Don't forget the cucumbers in the shopska salad. Yeah, here its made with red bell peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, Bulgarian cheese, and sometimes comes with a olive on top and occasionally some onion. Different places make it differently. I'll take a number 1, but I'm not sure what it will look like by the time it gets here...lol. Yeah, I know they miss their laundry queen..but they can manage. I can't imagine the state of the house when I return! Love you both! And thanks for the compliments about my blog!
