I have known for a long time that I wanted to study abroad, but Bulgaria was not the location that I had always imagined. Many people ask me why I chose Bulgaria, but the fact is...Bulgaria chose me. (Or I should say that events occurred along the way that resulted in my Bulgarian study abroad…)I knew next to nothing about Bulgaria when I began the process of looking at schools abroad. However, I knew that Bulgaria was full of history and that was very attractive to me. So, I began making my list of possibilities and through a painfully long process, I narrowed that list down to five universities. No,Bulgaria was not my first choice. My first choices announced they would no longer accept exchange students after September. Therefore, Bulgaria became my destination school. After I found out where I was going, I began researching my new college in more depth. I soon discovered that the history classes that my university offered were better than my first choices! (Blessing number one) In addition, I discovered that my university is only an hour from Greece! (Blessing number two) (For those of you that do not know…I have always wanted to live in Greece). Then, I met several helpful people that have either lived in, traveled to, or are visiting Bulgaria. (Blessing number three) The more I found out about Bulgaria, the more I felt like Bulgaria fit me.
